The word Jesus used for God in Gethsemane was Abba. Not Lord. Not Almighty. Not Creator. Abba is Aramaic. The most intimate word in the language. The word a small child uses for their own parent before they know any other words. Jesus used it at the moment of maximum pressure while sweating drops of blood with an army on its way to arrest Him. And then Romans 8:15 extends that same word to every believer. You did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. You received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry Abba Father. The God of the universe does not expect to be approached as a distant sovereign. He extended the most intimate word in existence to every person who comes to Him through Christ. 📖 Mark 14:36 — Abba Father all things are possible for you 📖 Romans 8:15 — You received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry Abba Father 📖 Galatians 4:6 — God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts crying Abba Father 📖 Luke 22:44 — His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground 📖 What Your Bible Lost in Translation — 20 Greek and Hebrew Words That Change How You Read Scripture Forever.
